Troubleshooting Guide: No Sound from One Channel
Experiencing no sound from one channel can be frustrating. Here's how we would diagnose and fix the issue at Tech Hifi!

1. Check the Basics
Balance Control: Ensure the balance knob on your amplifier or receiver is centered.
Cables and Connections: Confirm that speaker wires, interconnects, and power cables are securely connected and not damaged.
2. Test the Source
Switch Sources: Try a different source (e.g., CD player, streaming device) to determine if the issue is source-specific.
Swap Inputs: Swap the left and right input connections on your amplifier to see if the problem moves.
3. Inspect the Speaker
Swap Speakers: Connect the affected speaker to the opposite channel to confirm if the issue follows the speaker.
Check Binding Posts: Ensure the speaker’s binding posts are tight and free of corrosion.
4. Evaluate the Amplifier
Test with Headphones: Plug in headphones. If both channels work, the issue may be in the speaker connections or speakers themselves.
Power Cycle: Turn the amplifier off, disconnect everything, and reconnect to reset any internal faults.
5. Cables and Wires
Inspect for Damage: Look for frayed speaker wires or broken connectors.
Replace and Retest: Swap out cables with spares to see if the problem resolves.
6. External Factors
Room Setup: Check if something might be blocking or affecting the sound from one speaker.
Firmware or Settings: If using a modern AV receiver, ensure the firmware is up to date and speaker settings are correctly configured.
7. Consult the Experts
If you’ve gone through these steps and still have no sound from one channel, it may need a trip to Tech Hifi's own Mark Acoustics Lab. Feel free to contact us!
